What is the Youth Poet Laureate Program?
The National Youth Poet Laureate Competition is an initiative of Urban Word, in collaboration with local youth literary arts organizations across the country; and championed by the leading national literary and arts organizations, including the President’s Committee on the Arts & the Humanities, the Library of Congress, Academy of American Poets, Poetry Society of America, PEN Center USA, and Cave Canem. The program identifies powerful youth poets that have a history of artistic success, civic and community engagement, social justice, and youth leadership.
Teen Writers and Artists Project is one of over 30 organizations across the country that is helping to designate a regional Youth Poet Laureate.
How Do I Apply?
The application period for the inaugural Fox Valley Youth Poet Laureate opens on December 15th, 2019 and will run through January 31st, 2020. The application form will be available here on December 15th, 2019. If you have any questions prior to or during the application process, please feel free to send an email to ypl@twaap.org.
In order for your application to be considered, you must submit the following three items:

a signed poet agreement sheet

a portfolio of 5 poems (one of which must be written on this year's theme ,"Survival in the Suburbs"
